Cultivating a Travel Wardrobe

Confession time: I am a worrier. Since we decided to take this trip, I have worried about what we will bring and if we will have enough space. Worry and anxiety can be debilitating at times. Therefore, I was determined to channel all that negative energy into something productive. So I challenged myself to create a wardrobe that would minimize the amount of "stuff" I deemed important for the journey. My first attempt included 28 items (not including my hiking boots, sneakers, 5 pairs of undies and 3 bras)

1 Sweaters/ Jumpers (2) * Love Sweater * Gray Sweater
2 Blouses (3) * Bourgandy tank dress * Gray Blouse * Teal with Gray Roses Blouse
3 Pants (4) * Plum Pants * Light Gray Pants * Silver Pants * Black Leggings
4 Under Shirts / Tank Top (5) * Black & Pink Undershirts * Black, Pink, & Gray Tanks
5 Puffy Vest (1) * Gray Puffy Vest
6 Outfit for plane to Iceland (3) * Pink Shirt * Gray Undershirt * Jeans
7 Outfit for Boston (3) * Khaki Pants * Cream Cami * Plum Plaid Bouse
8 Scarves (5) * Cream, Gray Sports Infinity, Gray, Pink Infinity, & Black Floral
9 Light Athletic Jacket (1) * Light Athletic Jacket
10 Puffy Jacket / Gloves (1) * Teal Jacket

Paring Down - Rethinking My Travel Wardrobe

Removing the items above gave much-needed space to my suitcase. I seriously had a difficult time zipping up my case before my pare down. Now that I have free space, I will be able to include some food items we plan to take with us to Iceland. This is a great trade off because once we have consumed the food, I will have space to bring back any souvenirs we might have collected.

I placed an X on each item that I decided to leave behind. I actually liked all of the items and outfits. I just knew it wasn't smart to bring them all. No worries though. I plan to use many of the pieces to add to my capsule wardrobe in the fall. I get a feeling that grays and pinks are going to dominate. Below is an idea of what outfits I will wear on our upcoming journey.

Taking time to cultivate my wardrobe for our upcoming trip will surely grant me time during the journey to focus on things other than, "what should I wear?" Paring down the wardrobe from its initial volume has solved the problem of repacking as we travel from city to city and has allowed me much needed space for food there and souvenirs on the way back. Not to mention it was a lot of fun and an amazing creative outlet.
