"I am prescribing a lot more apps than medications these days"
- Eric Topol
I use four apps in my life, and I thought I would share these jewels with you today. They truly help me with my mindfulness and allow me opportunities to work on cultivating my best life.
1. Shine - Although there is an IOS app for this, it hasn't reached the Android platform yet. If you are an Android user don't be discouraged. I actually came to know about Shine through their daily text message delivery. Each morning at 6 a.m. (I believe I set the time of delivery) I receive a text message with a short article. This gift each morning helps me to see the positive potential in the upcoming day. It truly is my morning sunshine.
2. Calm - Need some natural sounds to soothe you? Looking for a guided meditation? This app can do all that. Many of the meditations, podcasts, or stories are free. Unlock other content with a premium membership. Note there is also a book by the same name written by Michael Acton Smith that pairs nicely with this app.
3. Stop, Breathe, & Think - This app also provides guided meditation. I often utilize the breathing exercises to reset my day when stress begins to creep in.
4. Daylio - This app is a game changer. It functions as a daily journal and allows the user to record their emotions when journaling. As a reflection piece, this is key. You can see trends in your emotions and moods. With some analysis, you can better understand what is happening and maybe what is causing the mood. Of course, I left the link to a video so you can see just how awesome this app is.
I know there are a myriad of other apps that help support our mental health and development. We now have so many tools and resources at our fingertips. Find a quiet place, tap on an app, and work to carve out space for a bit more calm and mindfulness.
