"What day is it?"
"It's today," squeaked Piglet.
"My favorite day," said Pooh.
- A.A. Milne
As I continue learning the art of leaning into today, this quote is truly a gift. I find it interesting that we ascribe moods and feelings to the days of the weeks in an attempt to match our own frustrations and dissatisfactions. Mondays are manic. We try to get to the other side of Wednesdays. And if we make it to Friday, we throw our hands up and scream, "FriYAY!". Only to find ourselves on Sunday lamenting a new week where we go through the cycle all over again. What if each day was just like pooh said...your favorite day? Just going on the fact that you woke up, touched your feet to the floor, and are reading this makes today a miracle. Now all that we carry into the day is the real challenge. I am not saying to sit in denial of your current situation. I guess we have little power of those things that we cannot control. However, we can control certain things. Or at least exercise our abilities to control our thoughts and emotions. Sometimes dates become days of sorrow. We mark them with cold gravestones that still our emotions and leave us feeling hollow. However, can these days not become blissful reminders of how precious gifts graced our lives even if for a time? I guess what I am trying to say in all of this is that this day can and should be your favorite day. It is the day you may begin the long and arduous journey to the treasure you seek. You were given this very day as a gift from the divine. A day filled with potential. Breathe it in.
