Where the Light Enters

"When will you begin the long journey into yourself?"

- Rumi

I feel I need to ask myself each day, "when?" We as humanity are so disconnected from ourselves. We connect to other things in a desire to find solace from our own suffering. We negate the practice of silence - further distancing ourselves from greater understanding and clarity. This does not mean you silence the sensibility to root out injustice. Rather you take opportunities to sit in silence each day to quiet the ever present distraction that keeps you from the work of self. This is an important self care practice. Over the years I have fallen into the trap of focusing on the faults of others in a desire to distance myself from my own. Self reflection can be painful and traumatic. Mistakes can be difficult to sift through. We must be careful that focusing on other's faults does not keep us from the very important work of healing ourselves. Have you ever sat with something, knew it to be true but was paralyzed with fear to address it? That is what inward reflection can do. Holding up a mirror to yourself can be disturbing. You will see the flaws. But the longer you look, the more those blend in as you give yourself grace to see the whole of who you are. We are all wounded in some way. Remember "the wound is the place where light enters you". - Rumi We must see the fractures of hurt as the place where and joy can enter. Kahlil Gibran said it best when he said, "Your joy can only fill you as deeply as your sorrow has carved you." Working to make a practice each day where silence is my guide in journeying inward to self.
